Hearing Loss, What is it?
What are the different types of hearing loss & how we can help you
Hearing loss affects the majority of pensioners and veterans in Australia, but this condition is not limited to these groups. Many Australians with such a condition suffer from acquired hearing loss rather than congenital hearing loss (i.e. being born with these difficulties).
The three overall types of hearing loss are:
- Sensorineural hearing loss
- Conductive hearing loss
- Mixed hearing loss
There is another type called Auditory processing disorder. You can read more about the types of hearing loss here.
Harmony Hearing & Audiology is an independent hearing centre. We provide comprehensive, diagnostic tests that determine the extent, level and types of hearing loss. You may already be suffering from hearing loss symptoms, which include:
- Muffled speech and mumbled sounds.
- Struggling to hear consonants.
- Unable to separate the sound of words against background noise.
These symptoms can present a slight hearing loss, but there is a solution. Unlike audiology clinics that are contracted by hearing aid manufacturers, we do not offer you a one-size-fits-all solution. We present you with premium hearing aids suited to your unique requirements.
Preventing future hearing loss
For most Australians, hearing problems loss develops over time as opposed to being something they're born with. To that end, groups like the WHO advocate implementing a hearing impairment and deafness control strategy for every nation. Already, initiatives addressing the issue of chronic middle ear infections in indigenous communities are gathering support inside the Commonwealth, as are reforms and regulations for noise exposure in the workplace. This is an ongoing cause for concern, but fortunately, steps are being taken to improve hearing care for all Australians.
